  ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is the world’s oldest medical science, in use for over three thousand years. Chinese medical science holds that there is an extensive and complex energy system that flows throughout the human body.  By stimulating certain points (or “acupoints”) on the body, an acupuncture needle sends impulse messages to the brain, which then stimulate corresponding areas on your person.

Auricular (ear) acupuncture is thought to be effective in treating mental and emotional disturbances including anxiety, depression, and insomnia.  It can treat physical pain such as arthritis, back pain, migraine headache, tendonitis and sciatic pain.  It can also used as a therapy to treat digestive problems such as colitis and indigestion; respiratory and sinus problems like asthma, hay fever and sinusitis; obesity;  premenstrual syndrome; and addiction to drugs, alcohol and cigarettes.

The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) has developed a protocol to treat various ailments using five points on each ear:

  • Sympathetic—used for relieving tension

  • Shen Men or Spirit Gate—used for calming and relaxing

  • Liver—used to detoxify, as well as to relax and relieve anger and frustration

  • Kidney—used to strengthen the willpower and release unwanted toxins

  • Lung—used to help respiration, as well as for detoxification
